The Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout / Tagout)
ASSE/ANSI Z244.1 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 establish minimum performance requirements for the control of hazardous energy and require employers to develop lockout / tagout (LOTO) programs and procedures that are applicable to the machinery and equipment in their facilities. This standard and regulation covers the servicing and maintenance of machines and equipment in which the unexpected energization or startup of the machines or equipment, or release of stored energy could cause injury to employees. The regulation applies to electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, potential, chemical, and thermal and all other applicable hazardous energy sources.
Lovegreen Machine Safety can help you comply with ASSE/ANSI Z244.1, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 and your corporate safety standards. Our safety professionals will conduct an on-site assessment to document all machine energy sources for the machines that are specified. We will then create an equipment specific Lockout / Tagout procedure for each piece of machinery or equipment. Finally, we instruct Authorized Employees how to follow the proper procedures to insure that the machine is locked out, in a verified zero-energy-state, before the start of servicing and maintenance tasks on machines and equipment.
